a filler post
I promise to update with a real post soon, but in the meantime, I just have to share a link that makes me laugh:

Traffic in this city is amusing, to say the least. I don’t think the video is of Dhaka, but it is more or less identical to the conditions here. Being able to cross the street is a skill requiring much practice. My tried-and-true New York pedestrian techniques have proved to be of little value. I’ve been advised to just look straight and walk at a steady pace.
I have yet to take the advice.

Actually, the trick I picked up in Asia is to walk at a measured (predictable) pace across the street while making eye contact with every possible car that can hit you. Also you have to be willing to physically stop the car/moped/rickshaw when you need to.

Jie - there are way too many cars here to make eye contact. It’s embarrassing though, I stand with several people while crossing the street, and end up being the only one left behind.
